Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema was a famous Frisian artist of special British denizenship.
Lawrence was born in Dronrijp of north Netherlands on Jan 8 1836. His father was Pieter Jiltes Tadema. When he was young, he received art training from a local artist. He stayed 4 years in the Royal Academy of Antwerp as registered student to study Dutch and Flemish art. In 1870, he moved to England where he lived there permantly. Lawrence was well known for the images of the luxurious as well as decadence of the Roman Empire.
Alma-Tadema died on Jun 25, he was regarded as one of the most financially successful artist of the Victorian era, even though hardly ever matching Edwin Henry Landseer.
