Model: Angelico Fra-011

The Annunciation by Fra Angelico is one of the most famous paintings. The Italian painter was in his 40s when he was commissioned to paint the walls of the Convent of San Marco in Florence. The commission came from Cosimo de' Medici, the legendary Italian banker. Fra Angelico accepted the challenge of depicting biblical narratives, which have been around since the fourth century AD. This painting was completed during the height of his artistry and power.

The painting is considered the first Florentine altarpiece in the Renaissance style. It demonstrates the use of perspective and reflects the time's current trends. Many of the same principles that inspired Brunelleschi's architecture were used by Angelico. Unlike Brunelleschi, who made use of a three-dimensional perspective to depict scenes in a two-dimensional plane, Angelico manipulated these principles in the Annunciation to create a distorted sense of depth. This trick turns the painting into an elastic dimension where the observers are able to perceive the depth of the work.
