Fine Arts Budapest is situated in the heart of the city, in Heroes' Square, and faces the Palace of Art.

The collection of fine arts in the Museum of Fine Arts Budapest dates back to 1870, when a wealthy Hungarian family donated their collection to the Hungarian state. The esterhazy collection contains a range of art works from the Renaissance to modern times, by painters such as Cezanne and Rodchenko. This is the reason the museum holds so many exhibitions on art, which is one of the reasons why it is so popular in Budapest.

Its collection contains over 100,000 pieces of art. The museum includes additions from the old Buda Castle and the Zichy and Esterhazy estates. The collection also features a wide range of contemporary pieces, as well as the collections of individual collectors. The Museum of Fine Arts Budapest celebrated its centenary in 2006. It is considered to be one of the world's most important museums of art and culture.
