Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai was an influential ukiyo-e printmaker and painter. His best-known works are his 36 Views of Mount Fuji, which include the internationally iconic print The Great Wave off Kanagawa. His works are renowned for their unique style and evocative images. 

Hokusai's oeuvre is extensive, covering a variety of ukiyo-e art forms. His earliest works include surimono prints, single-sheet prints, and erotic books. Later, his works were translated into English and influenced many other European impressionists, including Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. His work is still popular today.
