Despite the animal's eponymous name, rabbits are not often featured in art. They are only mentioned in the Old Testament, and in the context of the prohibition against eating them. However, they have a place in the visual arts, and the enduring popularity of these creatures has resulted in a plethora of paintings. 

Aside from depicting rabbits, the animal has many other symbolic meanings. It is a symbol of rebirth and resurrection, and is associated with Easter and the rebirth of Christ. A famous work by Tex Avery depicts the Madonna and Infant Jesus playing with a white rabbit. The young child Jesus is held in a basket with bread and wine, representing the sacrificial death of Christ.
