Isaac van Ostade was a Dutch painter, who lived and worked in Haarlem. He studied with his brother Adrian, and after graduating from art school, began working independently. He was influenced by Rembrandt, but soon developed his own distinctive style and became independent of his brother. He joined the Guild of San Lucas de Haarlem in 1643, where he produced landscapes and genre scenes involving frozen rivers. Unfortunately, he did not live long enough to fully perfect his painting technique.
