William Lionel Wyllie was an English painter who specialized in maritime themes. He painted in watercolours and oils and is considered one of the most important marine artists of his day. His works can be found in many museums and are highly collectible.

During his career, Wyllie's art has received much praise. Although his paintings can be costly, they are remarkably affordable. The most popular Wyllie images are seascapes, landscapes, and maritime subjects. Most of his paintings are less than PS1,500. Some of his watercolours are very scarce and expensive. Here are some of his most famous works: four etchings, six watercolours, and five lithographs.

As a young man, Wyllie began working as an illustrator for the Graphic and had several exhibitions at galleries and museums. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1889, but did not exhibit at the academy until 1901. During the latter part of his life, he spent most of his time on the sea, working for the White Star Shipping Line. During WWI, he also served in the Royal Navy.
